French adjectives ending in -el

French has a number of adjectives ending in -el. In the spelling, these adjectives follow a rule slightly similar to French adjectives ending in -et:

Note that this rule affects the spelling only: both endings -el and -elle are pronounced identically.

For example:

un livre sensationnel
a fantastic book
une idée sensationnelle
a fantastic idea
